As I'm sure you're all aware of, today is Internet Blackout Day, a day of protest against the detestible SOPA and PIPA acts currently being moved through the American Congress. The bills are designed to shut down and/or block websites that feature or distribute copyrighted or pirated material, but the actual effects of the bills will be much different. A select few people will now have the power to shut down, block (from appearing in the U.S.), or fine any website they deem to infringe upon copyright laws. The website owners will be given no trial, and the rules that the Select Few need to follow will be incredibly vague, allowing them to act as Judge, Jury, and Executioner. Basically, this is an Internet Censorship Bill. As a website that features copyrighted songs for entertainment, 3-Chord Dorks would be in danger of being fined or taken down at any time, and many other sites that help spread the word about the music we all love would also be in danger. I FUCKING HATE THIS BILL WITH A PASSION. I have chosen not to black out my site, but I would like everyone reading to help petition this abhorrent bill. Here are links to two big internet petitions which I have signed, and I would like you all to sign as well. First Petition, and Second Petition. I don't know if people outside the United States will be counted, but sign it anyway, wherever you are. If you'd like to read more about the SOPA and PIPA bills, click here. In the spirit of this monumental protest, I'll leave you all with this, and return to sharing music tomorrow. And just so you guys know: If this bill passes, I will continue updating this website with new songs and links, illegaly, until they pry my keyboard out of my cold, dead fingers.
