Song of the Day

Black Sabbath (1970)

A song from Black Sabbath's first album.  The band had only two days to record and mix the album, so they just went in and played their entire set live in the studio all at once.  Ozzy was singing along with the band, albeit in a separate booth.  The album is credited as the first true "heavy metal" album, as only a few individual heavy metal songs had been released prior to it by different bands.  Black Sabbath was basically the band who put the evil into heavy metal, in terms of both its sound and its lyrical themes, as well as establishing the slow, droning guitar style that would eventually lead to the emergence of doom metal years later.  In other words:  Yeah, there's a reason why everyone cites them as an influence.  It's because they influenced EVERYTHING.
