Song of the Day

Heard Her Call My Name
The Velvet Underground
White Light/White Heat (1968)

One of VU's upbeat songs from their second album, which, like the first, sold poorly and got mediocre reviews when it was first released, but has since gained a reputation as an incredibly awesome and influential album.  Violinist John Cale called this album "purposely anti-beauty," which you can hear very well in this song, with the overly-distorted guitar solos that are notably off-key.  Velvet Underground songs like this one had a huge impact on later punk, alternative, and experimental genres that would emerge decades later.
